  • - Direct replacement for Ford PU7Z-9C968-C, the current number for F4SZ-9C968-A and Motorcraft CM-4760. Cross-references CM5350, PR162, PR162T, SKPR162, FP10049 and 5G1131. The o-rings that seal the regulator to the fuel rail come in the box, so the old hardened seals do not have to be reused and nothing else has to be ordered alongside it. Sold as one regulator with the seals supplied loose, ready to fit.
  • - The regulator is a vacuum-referenced diaphragm valve on the fuel rail. It holds rail pressure a fixed amount above manifold pressure by bleeding surplus fuel back to the tank through the return line, which is what keeps injector flow the same whether the engine is at idle vacuum or wide open throttle. Every injector pulse the computer commands assumes that pressure is correct.
  • - A torn diaphragm sends the engine rich: hard starting, long cranking, rough idle, black smoke, a fuel smell at the tailpipe, fouled plugs and economy falling off. A spring that has gone weak sends it lean instead, with hesitation and surge under load. The quick check is to pull the vacuum hose off the regulator with the engine running - fuel in that hose means the diaphragm has split.
  • - Fitting takes hand tools: relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve first, pull the vacuum hose, release the retaining clip or the two screws, and work the regulator out of the rail. Wet the new o-rings with clean fuel before pushing the regulator home so they slide rather than roll, refit the clip, then cycle the key a few times and check for weeping before starting up.
  • - Fits Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles with return-style fuel injection, roughly 1991 to 2001: Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, Super Duty, Bronco, Explorer, Ranger, Mustang, Taurus, Thunderbird, Crown Victoria, Escort, Contour, Windstar, Aerostar and Econoline; Lincoln Town Car, Continental, Mark VIII and Navigator; Mercury Grand Marquis, Cougar, Sable, Mystique, Tracer and Mountaineer.
